Week 3

Parents,

I can hardly believe we are already in week 3!  The children have learned so much in such a short amount of time!  They are getting really good at being PROACTIVE (Habit #1) and learning all of our class procedures, too.

Last week we work on recognizing the beginning sound in our name and that it is always a capital letter. If your child is not able to write his/her name independently then please work on that at home.

 DATES for your CALENDAR...
  • Library Days are every Tuesday.  Please make sure your child has their library book in their backpack ready to turn in.  Your child is also able to turn their book in any day of the week and check out a new one before or after school.
  • $1.00 FREE DRESS FRIDAY will be this Friday the 2nd.  On these days your child may dress in clothes other than their uniform if they bring $1.00 from home. No tank tops, short shorts or sandals.
  • EARLY DISMISSAL FRIDAY   This is a minimum day.  School will be dismissed at 12:45 p.m.
  • NO SCHOOL MONDAY, September 5th ~ Labor Day

KINDERGARTEN HAT DAY ~ this Friday, Sept. 2nd
On Friday your kindergartener may wear any hat of their choice to school.  We are going to be using them with a sorting project in math to celebrate that we are sorters!

Homework this week...
This week your child has another sort.  Please have your student cut out each piece and sort them into one of these groups:  Things we wear on...  our head, feet, body or hands.

The skill of sorting is so important and will help your child prepare for our spelling program that will be starting in a few weeks.  Talk, talk, talk to your child and help them to understand why they are sorting them into these groups.

Have a fabulous week!

Week 2

We had a great first week of kindergarten!  It was so much fun getting to know each other with their Summer Sacks!  I hope the children are adjusting to their new schedule.  Just a reminder to make sure your child gets plenty of sleep and a healthy breakfast every morning.  It makes a big difference in their ability to learn each day.
Home Learn Folders
Your child’s blue Home Learn Folder will come home every MONDAY and is due on THURSDAY (unless noted otherwise on the bookmark).  Give yourself a pat on the back if you remembered to turn it in this week!  The children that turn theirs in (on time) get to “clip-up”!  We had lots of children get to clip-up.
Please keep the follow things in mind when working on the homework:  Keep the colored bookmark stapled to the packet of homework every week.  Put a check mark in the box next to each assignment as your child completes it.  Please complete ALL of the assignments each week.
The blue sight words that your child cut apart are to be kept in the baggie at home.  We will be adding to them all year so keep them in a safe place and get them out often and practice reading them.  If your child can already read them then they can start writing sentences and illustrating them. Ex. The cat.  The bed.      Last week we worked on the word: the.  This week we will learn the word: my.
Each week the Home Learn packet is worth 10 points that goes on your child’s homework grade.  Points will be deducted for incomplete and missing/late work.
Thank you for supporting your child as a learner in our class!
The Giving Tree      THANK YOU to everyone for your wonderful classroom donations!  I will keep our Giving Tree next to or on our classroom door throughout the year.  It will have sticky notes with opportunities for other donations on it.  If you are looking to help our class with supplies come by, check it out and take a sticky note.  We are especially in need of Play-Doh and treasures for our Treasure Box.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 23rd is PICTURE DAY
Come looking your best in your uniform with a great big smile!  Please return the picture envelope if you plan on purchasing pictures.  ALL children will have their picture taken, however, there is NO obligation to purchase any pictures.  These pictures will be used for their name tag, placed in our school year book and put on other class projects.
LAST WEEK…   We learned our CLASS RULES.  We...
§                                                                                                                            THINK

                                                          OBSERVE

                                                                                                                                  MAKE GOOD CHOICES

                                                                                                                                COOPERATE

§                                                                                                      Be PATIENT – with ourselves and others
Talk to your child at home and ask them about our rules.  Point out times at home when they are doing them.
We are also working on the math attribute of sorting.  We are learning to sort objects that are identical, similar, or different into sets.

“SNAP WORDS”
That is what we call the high frequency words we are learning in kindergarten this year.  Last week we worked really hard to learn to read the word theHave your child look for that word at home.  This week we will learn to read the word my.
REMIND App
This is a way for me to send you messages on your phone reminding you about important class information.  Please sign up, today.  On the blue contact page you received on the first day of school I invited you to sign up for the REMIND App but the class code did not work.  PLEASE check your child’s Homework Folder and you will see instructions on a purple note explaining how to sign up (with the correct code).  When signing up do it in your child’s name.

Welcome to KINDERGARTEN!

Fabulous Kindergarten Parents,

You did it!  I know how hard it is to drop your child off the first day.  Please know that Mrs. Karren and I will love and take care of them.

In our class we like to say, "It's good to do hard things!"

Our mascot is the eagle.  Kindergarten kids are just like eagles.  They learn to soar high and do things that they didn't even know they could do.  They have keen eyes and observe everything.  They will be learning that in our class: We Think, We Observe, We Make Good Choices and are Patient with Ourselves and Others.

Please take time to click on the Disclosure link/ page (above) and read through it carefully. It will stay there all year long for your reference.  If you have any questions, make sure you come to Back-to-School Night on Thursday, August 18th.

When you pick your child up at 3:00 p.m. please meet us outside by the light pole.  Do not come into the building.

When you get home make sure you open their backpack and take a look at their homework folder.

If you need anything, I am here to help.  I'm excited to begin our kindergarten adventure!
