Week 1

We had a great first week of kindergarten!  It was so much fun getting to know each other with their Summer Sacks!  I hope the children are adjusting to their new schedule.  Just a reminder to make sure your child gets plenty of sleep and a healthy breakfast every morning.  It makes a big difference in their ability to learn each day.

If your child did not bring their Summer Sack to share it's not too late.
Just send it any day this week.

Remember that starting Monday kindergarten will be 8:10 am – 3:00 pm, except the 1st Friday of each month.  They are minimum days and school is dismissed (for all students) at 12:45 pm.

Home Learn Folders
Your child’s blue Home Learn Folder will come home every MONDAY and is due on THURSDAY (unless noted otherwise on the bookmark).
Please keep the follow things in mind when working on the homework:
·         Keep the colored bookmark stapled to the packet of homework every week.
·         Put a check mark in the box next to each assignment as your child completes it.
·         Please complete ALL of the assignments each week.
The blue sight words that your child will cut apart this week are to be kept in the provided baggie at home.  We will be adding to them all year so keep them in a safe place and get them out often and practice reading them.  If your child can already read them then they can start writing sentences and illustrating them. Ex. The cat.  The bed.      Last week we worked on the word: the.  This week we will learn the word: my.
Each week the Home Learn packet is worth 10 points that goes on your child’s homework grade.  Points will be deducted for incomplete and missing/late work.

Thank you for supporting your child as a learner in our class!

THANK YOU to everyone for your wonderful classroom donations!  We also have a Giving Tree that I will keep next to or on our classroom door throughout the year.  It will have sticky notes with opportunities for other donations on it.  If you are looking to help our class with supplies please come by and check it out and take one of the sticky notes.

Right now I am in need of Play-Doh and colorful adhesive stars.

Our fabulous librarian Mrs. Doiser, also has another talent.  She is a yoga instructor.  She will be coming into our room once a week to teach us yoga techniques to help us relax and prepare our mind and body to learn.  We will be using these techniques throughout our week.  Take a look at what she taught us on Friday.

Speaking of library, this week we will be going to the library for the 1st time.  Our library day is every MONDAY.  Your child will check out 1 book to bring home.  Please help him/her keep this book safe and return it the following Monday.  In a couple of weeks we will increase it to 2 books each week.  The children may also return their book(s) before school and check out a new book(s), any day of the week.

UPCOMING CALENDAR DATES…

$1.00 FREE DRESS FRIDAY
At OPA one of the ways we raise money is by having FREE DRESS FRIDAYS.  They will be scattered throughout the year, but not every Friday.  I will always send you a REMIND to let you know when they are.  They are also on Mrs. Campbell’s weekly blog.  The first one will be this Friday, Sept 1st
Here is how it works ~ if your child brings $1.00 he/she may wear clothes that are not the regular school uniform.  Levis, shorts, dresses… (please no open-toed shoes, short shorts, spaghetti straps or tank tops)

Grandparent Lunch ~ Tuesday, Sept. 12th  11:15 am

We are going to be celebrating GRANDPARENTS!

Look for the yellow note (below) in your child’s Home Learn Folder.  Each child may invite 2 grandparents to come on Tues. the 12th to eat lunch with them.  Please return it to school by THURSDAY.  We need to turn in a final count of who is coming that day.

We understand that not all children will have grandparents that are able to come.  That is okay.  We can share grandparents.J
