THANKSGIVING DINNER ~ FRIDAY, 17th
Parents, this year OPA would like to invite you (parents only) to come to school to have Thanksgiving dinner with your child.  The cost is $3.00 per adult.  Please pay the secretaries in the office and bring the receipt to the lunchroom.  Our class will be going to lunch from 11:40-12:10 (This time is slightly different than our regular lunch time).
We also need parents to help serve pie and aid in clean up either before or after you eat with your child.  If you are interested in helping please contact our secretary – Valerie Sluis  801-627-2066.

Kindergarten will be hosting a Literacy Night on November 30th, 5:00-7:00 pm.  This is a night where you and your child can come and immerse yourselves in a variety of sight word activities.  We will have lots of fun activities for you to participate in and take-home ideas, too.  We are asking that siblings not attend.  This is just a night for you and your kiddo.  Look for more information to come home this week.

On DECEMBER 5th we will be going to the Ogden Nature Center and are in need of 2 parents to ride the bus with us and help chaperone.  We will be gone from 12:15-2:30 pm.
If you would like to volunteer I will take the first 2 parents that contact me.

Congratulations to Aiden J. and Hazel for passing off a level in Raz Kids!

Our 5 top Raz Kid Readers for the week are:

Miguelangel - 2 hour s 20 min.
Aiden - 1 hour 43 min.
Link - 1 hour 32 min.
Hazel 1 hour 30 min.
Camilla - 1 hour 29 min.

We learned about who a Veteran is and why they are so important to our country.  If you or a member of your family is a Veteran, we salute you and are very grateful for your service!  Thank you!

We are also very grateful for our custodial staff at OPA!  They do a great job at keeping our school clean for us.  We wanted to “Give them a HAND!”  so we traced our hands and made a turkey for them.  Thank you Maria and Gabriel!

We ate very jiggly JELL-O and then jumped over ropes while spelling the sight word – was.  I heard one kiddo say, “This is so much fun!”  YES, I agree!  Learning is fun!

LANGUAGE ARTS ASSESSMENT

Your child’s Language Arts Unit 2 test is in their homework folder. Please, please celebrate what they know.  Everyone has learned something.  Then take time to practice what they missed.

SPELLING SORTS
I am so pleased with how well the kids are doing with their spelling sorts!  Thank you parents for being so involved.  Make sure you look at your child’s envelope this week.  I have moved a few kiddos up into the next spelling group.

Take a look at some fabulous sorting mats that were turned in last week!

We are continuing our exploration of 2D and 3D shapes.  We discovered that dice can be the shape of a cube.  We made an alphabet cube and played a game.  A cone and a sphere make an ice cream cone, and a rectangle and 2 circles makes a cylinder.  Just like a can of Beef Stew.

This week we will have a SHAPE SHOW AND TELL.  More details are in your child’s homework folder.

FRIDAY FUN CENTERS
Friday, Nov. 17th
1:30 – 3:00 pm

This Friday we will be doing centers that are all about Thanksgiving and shapes.  To really be successful I need 4 parents to help run these centers.  Please contact me if you would like to come.

                   I will also need a few donations…

·         1 box of toothpicks
·         2 bags of mini marshmallows
·         1 bag of small size stick pretzels
·         3 pints of heavy whipping cream

Please contact me if you are able to provide any of these items.
