Noun & Verbs
The children took a quiz on nouns and one on verbs last week.  Take a look at these quizzes and celebrate their successes.  Then make sure you continue to point out nouns and verbs in your child’s environment.

Inflected Endings ~ ing, ed
We have learned that by adding ing & ed to the end of a verb we can show when it is happening.  Then we went outside and acted out the 3 words: jump, jumping & jumped.
  We want to jump!

We are jumping!

We jumped!

We are the “King of ing”.  When we add ing to the end of a verb we are showing that it is happening right then.

We know how to write sentences!  A complete sentence begins with a capital, has spacing between each word, contains a noun and a verb, and ends with punctuation.  Just ask us or come see our Sentence Buddies hanging up in front of our classroom.

We finished our rock unit in science and decided to turn our rocks
into ROCK BUDDYS.  It was such a fun activity!
Thank you to Brie Allred and Samantha Hargrave for helping.

Then we named them and wrote descriptions about them.  I can’t wait for you to see what they wrote!  It will be in their Writing Portfolio that will come home at the end of the year.

OPA GARDEN

We had a really fun opportunity to work in our school garden on Friday with Mrs. Cash!  We helped spread bark.  We got to see the garlic that we helped plant last fall.  She taught us about plants that are already growing in the garden like cilantro, parsley, and sage.  Some of us tasted the sage.  We also got to plant flower seeds!    Thank you Mrs. Cash!

Week 29

RAZ KID READER!
Once again we have a fabulous Raz Kid Reader!
Camilla passed off a level of Raz Kids last week!

I want to remind and encourage you to have your child read on Raz Kids especially on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays if they are on levels A or B.  To be ready for first grade your child needs to be at the end of Level C ready to begin Level D.  ONLY 2 months left.

We have been working really hard on recognizing and writing NOUNS and VERBS.  We know that a noun is a person, place, thing, or animal.  We also know that when we have more than 1 of a particular noun it becomes plural and we add an /s/ or /es/ to the end of it.

A verb is an action.  If you can do it, you can do it, you can do it… It’s a verb!
We had so much fun playing charades with action verbs.

This week we will continue to work with verbs and inflected endings like: ed & ing

On Thursday I will be giving the children a noun and verb quiz.  Please review these at home this week so they will be ready.

The children have been working really hard on learning all 42 of their kindergarten high-frequency words.  Look at all of the fabulous sentences they wrote using these words!

Pay close attention to your child's spelling sort this week.  Last week many of them advanced into a higher group.  Look for the name of their group on the outside of their spelling envelope.  Congratulations!

We love Spanish Class with Senora Sorensen!  Each week when I announce that we will be having Spanish the children all cheer!  We have been learning about animals and their coverings.  We also had a special visit last week from the Spanish class at MOPA.  They came and read stories to us in Spanish.  They did a great job!  Some of our Spanish speaking kiddos even helped pronounce some of the words for them.  It was a Win-Win!

Last week we changed from being a Botanist to a Geologist.  We learned what rocks and minerals are and how we use them every day in our life.  Like when we drink from a glass or when we use a pencil.  The lead in a pencil is made from a special rock called graphite.  Our sidewalk chalk is even made out of rocks!

We learned about erosion and how wind and water break down big rocks.  Ask your child about this experiment and what we discovered.

Then we broke open geodes to see what the effects of minerals in water create.  They make crystals inside that were so beautiful!

We finished out the week by doing several experiments to determine the characteristics of our rocks.  We tested the texture, hardness of the rock, made a prediction about whether or not it would sink or float and what the circumference of the rock was.  We weighed it to see how many cubes heavy it was and observed the colors and whether or not it was shiny or dull.

April 2nd - 6th   NO SCHOOL
