last week for being a great example of

HABIT #6 ~ SYNERGIZE!

On Monday make sure you check your child’s backpack for our latest math assessment on addition and subtraction.  Celebrate their successes!  Then reinforce and practice any that they missed.  If your child missed only one then they have a good understanding of addition and subtraction.  If they missed 2 or more then they need to keep practicing over and over.

A fun way to do it is to use manipulatives in their environment like cereal, Legos, toy cars, or stuffed animals and have them make up a story problem to go with them.

We are now working on our teen numbers.  We know that a teen number is a group of 1 and some extra ones.

We are learning about prefixes.  Last week we learned that if you place “un” in front of a word it means the opposite of that word.  Take a look…

Tie - Untie

Happy - Unhappy

Locked - Unlocked

Fold - Unfold

Button - Unbutton

Zip - Unzip

We are becoming poets!  We have learned that a poem is a short story with rhyming words.  We read a poem written by Shel Silverstein called Boa Constrictor.  We liked it so much that we created a poem together as a class about snakes.  Next week each of the children will be writing their own poem about an animal of their choice.

CLASS GOAL
We reached our goal of 120 tally marks by synergizing together as a class!  The reward that we were working towards was a game day.  We played Lucky Ducks, Fishing, ZINGO, Barrel of Monkeys, Ring Toss, and Frogs.  Each team had to work together to follow the rules and take turns.  I was so excited to see them communicate and work together as they rotated from game to game!
Now we are working on getting a total of 150 tally marks to have a Mystery Activity!

CALLING ALL Community Workers…
Starting May 1st and going through May 11th we will begin learning about community workers.  I would LOVE to have some parents come to our class to share what you do in your job (10-15 minutes).  This could be a job that you go to or one you do from home.  I would even love to have a father & mother come tell about the job of being a mother or father.  We are very flexible and can work around your schedule.  Please contact me if you are interested.

We LOVE Our TA & LIBRARIANS!
Last week was Teacher Assistant Appreciation Week & Librarian Appreciation Week!

We are so fortunate to have Mrs. Karren in our classroom.  She is a fabulous support to me and your children.  We made a Star TA booklet to give to her.  Thank you Mrs. Karren for all that you do!

The children also came up with reasons they love our 2 librarians – Mrs. Johnson & Mrs. Doiser.  Then we went to the library and shared why we love them!

We also took our Study Buddy outside to write and draw pictures and notes to our TAs and Librarians.  Then we played on the big toy together.  We love our Study Buddies!
