Was so much
fun! Thank you for coming and supporting
it. We hope that you had fun playing
sight word games with your child and learned some new ways to practice these
words. If you were not able to attend I
sent home one of the games we handed out – Sight
Word Graphing. Have your child show
it to you.
We
also raffled off several of the games.
Aiden Janssen won one of the Jenga Sight Word games!
On
Friday we celebrated HABIT #3 – Put First
Things First with all of the children in kindergarten. Each class chose 1 student that has been a
great example of this habit.
Camilla d’Hulst was chosen from our class. Congratulations Camilla!
These
will be displayed in the hall. Please help your child make it their very
best work.
I am also watching all week for the perfect kids to be: Mr. Q and Miss U, a ring bearer, bride’s maids, and best men. The children have let me know if they would like to be one of these people in our wedding. On Thursday we will make the final selection.
Then on the day of the wedding ~ FRIDAY the 8th,
the children may wear their BEST DRESS. This is
not a Free Dress Day. If your child
chooses not to wear best dress then they will need to wear their regular school
uniform.
And you can't have a wedding without a wedding cake! I need 1 parent to donate a cake that will feed 25. This is what someone donated last year. If you would like to donate the cake please contact me.
Take
a look at some more fabulous Raz Kid Readers!
These kiddos completed a level of Raz Kids last week. I am so excited to see what great readers
they are becoming!
Yy is for YAMS
Most of us tried eating
a piece of yam. Some thought it
was yummy! But, some thought it
was yucky!
Zz is for ZEBRA
We learned that the
letter Zz makes the sound of a zipper.
We also made a Zigzag Zebra. To make its stripes we had to use our
math skills and measure the yarn. Boy
did we have to remember our motto – “It’s
Good To Do Hard Things!”
Next week we will be learning about the letters:
Qq & Uu. Then we will have learned
the entire alphabet and all letter sounds. Please make sure your child is
able to recognize and name all letters in RANDOM order. Also, each child
should know the letter sounds including long and short vowel sounds. 21
Sight words have also been taught and your child should be reading them
fluently in random order and be able to find them in books and other
text.
SHAPES
Last week the children took the Module 2 Assessment
on Two-Dimensional Flat Shapes and Three-Dimensional Flat Shapes. This was an oral assessment identifying
shapes and their attributes. That means
you will not see a written assessment come home. However I wanted to let you know how your
child did. Look for his/her score in
their homework folder. If you have
further questions about the test please contact me.
Module 3 is all about measuring. We can identify objects that have different
heights and lengths. We are working on
the math vocabulary: height, longer than, shorter than, and taller than.
The next 2 weeks we will be exploring PATTERNS to get ready to decorate our graham cracker houses. Please take time to look for patterns at home and point them out to your child. They could be patterns with objects, colors, numbers, and letters of the alphabet.
We will be making a Christmas Countdown Chain with an AB pattern. When it comes home I hope you will hang this up somewhere special. Each day help your child to remember to tear one chain off and practice their counting skills.

Example:
“My chain had 19 links. I took 1 away. Now I have 18 links left.”

“I have 8 red links and 9 green
links. 9 is more than 8. 8 is less than 9.”
On Tuesday we will be
going on our field trip to the Ogden Nature Center to learn about animals in
the winter! We will learn that they
hibernate, generate, propagate, insulate, and migrate. We will also be making bird feeders and crawl
through a bear den and mice holes.
Please make sure you
send your child in full winter gear: coat, hat, mittens or gloves, and boots or
sturdy shoes. Part of the time we will
be outside – regardless of the weather.
We will also be wearing our school uniform that day.
