Wow, was last week ever busy! We learned about 2 new letters:
Ww is for wiggly worms
We observed real worms and ate wiggly gummy
worms.
Jj
is for jiggly Jello!
We ate jiggly Jello for our snack and practiced jumping the rope many different ways.
FALL
HARVEST PARTY
It was so much fun!
Thank you to the wonderful room mothers that pulled it all together and
parents that came to help!
·
We ate pumpkin pie and drank spider cider. Yummy!
·
We graphed spiders and had spider races.
·
We painted fall leaves with Karo syrup.
·
We dissected a pumpkin. Some kids were brave enough to taste raw
pumpkin. We ate pumpkin seeds in and out
of the shell and made a pumpkin book.
CONGRATULATIONS
to our class of readers and super supportive parents! Last week we read a combined total of 1925 minutes! That’s our best week ever!
This
week in your child’s Home Learn Folder:
·
PIZZA HUT COUPON If your child
turned in reading minutes all 4 weeks in October they earned a free pizza! Make sure you spend it in the next 30
day. It expires after then.
SPELLING SORTS Congratulations! Some students have advanced to a new spelling group. Look closely at your child’s spelling sort to see if they are one of the children that have moved up into the short vowel group. That means they will be writing cvc (consonant, vowel, consonant) words instead of just beginning sounds.
FRIDAY
PARENT LEARNING CENTERS
Friday Nov. 11th 1:45-3:00 pm
This will be
our first parent center day. We will be working on
projects to get ready for our Kindergarten
Literacy Night (November 17th).
I will need 4 parents to help run centers.
Please
contact me if you can help that day.
- · 2 pints of HEAVY WHIPPING CREAM
- · 1 big bag of stick pretzels
In
December we will be participating in a STEM project. The children will be purchasing all the
supplies needed to construct a graham cracker house: graham crackers, frosting,
and candy (in class).
This
is how it will work. This week, on Friday I will take the Clip Up Behavior Chart off
the wall. Your child will start to earn pennies and nickels in class by
being proactive. In December they will have the opportunity to use their money
to buy the supplies needed to construct and decorate their house. The
amount of money they earn will determine how much candy they will be able to
buy to decorate their house.
I’m
letting you know about this right now so you can support and reinforce your
child’s behavior in the classroom, at home. The following are a few of
the ways they will have an opportunity to earn money:
- Returning
completed homework on time (this includes the reading log minutes,
spelling mats and returning the spelling envelope)
- Coming
to school on time
- Staying
on task in class
- Making
wise choices
- Helping
others
- Listening
and following directions the first time given
Don' forget to put this important night on your calendar. We would love to have every family attend.
