March in like a lion and out like a lamb. This saying may be
true when it comes to the weather but not when it comes to what we are doing in
our class. We are roaring ahead with some great science,
math, and language arts concepts all the way to the end of the month!
In our Kindergarten Hallway Huddle on Friday we spotlighted 1 child from each class that was a great example of habit 5 ~ Seek First to Understand Then to be Understood. Miguelangel
Lopez was chosen from our class!
Miguel is a really great example of someone who asks lots of question to
get understanding and clarification in class and when interacting with the
children in our class. Congratulations
Miguel!
Look
at who passed off a level of Raz Kids last week!
Skylar
Hazel
Happy Birthday
Dr. Seuss!
This
week was Dr. Seuss’ birthday and we celebrated several of the wonderful stories
he has written!
On
Monday we read Green Eggs and Ham.
Then we sampled some green eggs and
ham. Some liked it and some did not!
On
Tuesday we read One Fish, Two Fish,
Red
Fish, Blue Fish
On
Wednesday we read Hop on Pop and
On
Friday we took all of the word families ( _at, _op, ed, _am)
we learned about in these books and created a chart of rhyming words.
What a great day, what a
great week!
We learned that plants start with a seed.
Little seeds
lie fast asleep,
In a row, in a
row.
Wake up, wake
up,
Calls the sun.
Wake up now
and grow.
It
was fun acting it out. We were the seeds
covered with soil (scarves) and Skylar was the sun that woke us up.
We
learned that plants need: sun, water, soil, and clean air to grow.
We
dissected a lima bean and observed the different parts that will grow into a
plant. Then we planted Groovy Guy Grass & Groovy Girl Grass. Starting this week we will learn about the
parts of a plant and why plants are so important to us. It is a WIN
– WIN for both plant and human beings!
Keep watching the blog to see how our living grass will grow and change
over the next few weeks.
We
had a SEED TASTING PARTY and sampled quite
a variety of seeds and roots last week.
Some we really liked and some not so much. We learned that seeds come in all different
shapes, sizes, and colors. They also
grow in many different ways. When we were done we wrote about our most favorite and least favorite seeds.
Speaking
of living things growing and changing you should see what our meal worms are
doing. They have begun to shed their
skin and go into their pupa stage. We
are watching every day to see what they will become when they emerge. Stay tuned…
Thank you for turning in your child’s lunch
request and permission slip. I still
have a several children that have not paid $2.00 for the train ride. I need to have this by Wednesday of this
week. Please pay it to one of the secretaries
in the front office.
Look for the ZOO note in your in your child’s
homework folder on Monday.
Last Monday we started out in 2nd place
because so many of you brought pennies for our can! WAHOO!!! But, because we were
in 2nd throughout the week we became the recipient of lots of silver
coins and dollar bills. We are now approximately
$40.00 in the hole. Although that is not
good for us it is good for the fund raiser! Keep sending those pennies for our can and silver coins and bills for
other class cans.
Monday, March 12th ~ Field Trip to the
